Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure game, has expanded in popularity so rapidly.

Omaha hi low begins just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to every player. A sequence of wagering follows where players can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. One more sequence of wagering happens. Once all the players have either called or folded, a further card is flipped on the turn. an additional round of wagering happens at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants will need to make the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where a few players often get flustered. Contrasted to Hold’em, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must utilize precisely three cards from the board, and precisely two hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the best hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the very same approach in almost every poker game.

A low hand is more complex, but really opens up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no low hand available, the high hand takes the whole pot.

While it seems complicated at the start, after a few rounds you will be able to pick up on the basic subtleties of play simply enough. Since you have people wagering for the low and betting for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at the same time, Omaha/8 provides an exciting collection of wagering choices and owing to the fact that you have many individuals trying for the high hand, and several battling for the low hand.
