Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the best poker players on the planet.
He began playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning period and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his success. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
