Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender in the world by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover anything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental feedback from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an undying passion for poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
