Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the planet by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse comments from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying love for poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is quite humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
