Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure game, has grown in popularity so quickly.

Omaha/8 starts just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A sequence of betting ensues in which gamblers can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. One more sequence of wagering happens. Once all the players have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. a further round of betting follows and then the river card is flipped. The players will have to make the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where a number of entrants get baffled. Unlike Texas Holdem, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player must use exactly 3 cards on the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the very same notion in almost every poker game.

The low hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that could be put together, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the higher hand takes the complete pot.

Although it seems difficult at the start, after a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to get the base subtleties of the game simply enough. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha 8 or better provides an overwhelming array of betting choices and seeing that you have many players shooting for the high, and a few shooting for the low. If you enjoy a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha/8.
