• No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse feedback from other people kill his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his achievements. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
