Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complex but popular poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure game, has expanded in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha/8 starts like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to each player. A round of betting follows in which players can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are given out, this is called the flop. Another sequence of wagering happens. Once all the players have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is flipped on the turn. an additional round of betting ensues and then the river card is flipped. The gamblers will have to put together the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where some entrants can get confused. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player has to utilize precisely 3 cards on the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the higher hand wins the whole pot.
