Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse feedback from others annihilate his dream of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
