Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental comments from other people destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
