• Internet High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the closing table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. He won a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best gamblers in the world. While gambling on net poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has no reason to play at the game with the min buy in.

Buying in for the minimum takes most of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full dollar value. I believe tv can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world could be players you have never heard of. Gus can be seen gambling on online poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in high stakes omaha high and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in money rounds?
